Hongu
This guesthouse is located along one of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes and Yunomine Hot Spring, said to be one of the oldest hot springs baths in Japan, is a 5-minute walk from the property.
There are 2 indoor hot springs baths and an open-air bath at the property.
It's very tidy and comfortable. Despite being a dorm, one could have his private box with bed, night table, and locker. I really appreciated the bento box for dinner and lunch box for the day after.
Shirahama Onsen, Shirahama
Situated in Shirahama in the Wakayama region, with Shirarahama Beach and Saki-no-Yu Onsen Spa nearby, Bakery Hotel SHIRAHAMA ベーカリーホテル シラハマ features accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Boasting a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. Kishu Museum of Art is 1.4 km away and Heisogen Park is 1.5 km from the apartment. We love this place. It is very peaceful and a nice 15 minute walk to many restaurants and beach. The staff made us feel so welcome. The bakery is top notch. I have had very delicious baked goods in multiple European countries, and this is right up there. We thought at first the mattress was a little firm(this seems standard in Japan), but ended up sleeping well.
Kawayu Onsen, Tanabe
Located in Tanabe, 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya offers accommodation with a public bath. With an open-air bath, the 2-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. The ryokan features a hot spring bath and a housekeeping service. Great place to stay if you’re hiking or traveling around the area. The host was super friendly, the and the room and sheets were clean. We also dug our own onsen in the river just outside - but there’s also a public outdoor onsen by the river as well as an indoor one in the minshuku. I also learned that “Minshuku” refers to a type of traditional, family-run guesthouse or lodging. Staying at a minshuku typically involves a more personal and homely experience, with the hosts often preparing homemade meals (usually Japanese-style), and the atmosphere is usually casual and friendly - I think it was all those things.
Tanabe

Kawayu Onsen is a truly enchanting destination, and my experience was greatly enhanced by the exceptional hospitality of the local guesthouse. The family-run establishment is managed with utmost care and dedication, and the culinary offerings were simply exquisite, leaving me with fond memories and a desire to return for more. The young daughter of the family is an absolute delight, and engaging in conversations with her about various geographical locations can be a delightful experience. Throughout my stay, I felt genuinely welcomed and received invaluable advice regarding my travel plans, which I highly recommend heeding. It is establishments such as these that leave an indelible impression, primarily due to the remarkable and compassionate individuals one encounters during their stay.

Absolutely authentic ryokan and hot spring experience.
Well located next to the hiking trail. We arrived late after sunset and left early, so can’t say much. The rooms were very clean, the showers are private onsen which was nice. They provide some basic dinner and porridge for breakfast which was very kind.
Lovely hotel staff, perfect location, great traditional Japanese hot spring. Quality-price is great.
Very nice place. Close to the public onsen and bus station. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are traditionally decorated and very clean which I really liked. The private onsen are also a highlight! Highly recommended.
Amazing accomodation with very clean and nice Japanese rooms and private onsens. Best treatment after a big hike!
The indoor gendered onsen was really good and of a very soothing warm temperature. The outdoor onsen is mixed gendered so doning the bathing suits provided at the indoor onsens, families could onsen together and bask in the outdoor stoney river sights.
It is very clean! And right across from the station. The individual bed sections offer great privacy. The onsen (hot springs) across the train station is great. There is plenty to see in this "maguro" city! Great WiFi.
A good hostel, in a good location (though Yunomine onsen is not that big). It had a nice tatami common area that even had a few games provided, such as go. The hostel had its own private hot springs, that are free to use: a lovely outdoor bath, a relatively big indoor bath and a rather small indoor bath. We had booked a private room, not big but fine with three persons. We received bento boxes for dinner and you could grab rice for free. There was also free rice porridge for breakfast. Overall very good value for the price.
This is an exceptional place! If you are hiking the Kumano Kodo trail this accommodation is very well located. The owner was super friendly and prepared a fabulous dinner and breakfast. The accommodation was very clean and quiet and the atmosphere was very calm and relaxing, plus there was a private Onsen at the accommodation - Exactly what you needed after a long day of hiking.
A welcoming and cosy place in a beautiful spot where you can dig your own hot spring in river banks, whilst also having two private onsen to boot.
