Everything! When staying at a B&B, guests typically expect (or hope!) that the proprietors are gracious and engaging host and engagement with the other guests is entertaining and enjoyable. Also, a B&B exhibiting character and uniqueness is often expected. At Abseil Inn we found all these. The various rooms at the Inn have their own unique theme (very cute!), the three other couples who stayed the Inn at the same time as us were all delightful, fun and easy to chat with, and made our experience a lot of fun. But the best part were the proprietors, John and Helen. Both John and Helen have a keen sense of humor, are very conversant, great conversationalists, and made sure the guests had all they needed and were comfortable. Last, but not least, the breakfast that John and Helen prepared was DELICIOUS! Fruits, eggs (Joh's specialty are the "Waitomo poached eggs - to die for!), French toast, fresh-squeezed juices, toasts, fresh made jams and jellies, and a dozen flavors of New Zealand honey were on offer. John and Helen are the consummate hosts who made our visit to Waitomo and their B&B very memorable!

Felt very welcome. Bed was comfy and everything was kept very warm despite it being cold outside. Kitchen was excellent and everything you need. There is parking just outside and it's a perfect location if you are going to waitomo caves or other attractions around that area.

Room was great. There are several smaller buildings on site that have one or more rooms in it. Pretty grounds. Breakfast was plentiful. Parking is down the hill but you can pull your vehicle up to unload/load luggage and then park as the driveway is pretty steep. Not a lot of restaurant choices in the village, but the next bigger town is only about a 15 minute drive away. Could walk to the Caves and take other hikes.

Very well stocked kitchen with plenty of everything you need. Small rooms, but comfortable and warm. Tennis courts and swimming pool were free to use. Easy parking and convenient location.

I was an early arrival but was accommodated beyond expectations. The manager gave me a very accessible room and was able to accommodate an extra night. Lovely and tasty breakfasts. The location is excellent to all relating to the caves and adventure travel. The parking lot was easily accessible, restaurants a 5-minute walk and info on the menus was a great help. I highly recommend this lodge... the innkeepers were so very kind and informative.

We booked a room for 1 night here and the stay was fabulous. Our hosts were delightful and we felt at home here. The room comes with an ensuite bathroom and had a side entrance towards the parking lots. Breakfast was provided (you had to indicate interest the evening before) and you are bound to be full after breakfast! The experience felt like us returning home to visit our grans, leaving us stomached full and hearts warm. P.S there is also a chonky cat residing here!!!

Perfect location. Very near to all the caves and restaurants and the lovely breakfast just enhanced the experience. Rooms were very well maintained and has ample free parking nearby. The owners explained the neighbourhood in great detail when we arrived and told us about a lot of lesser known (but very beautiful) experiences which one can have if time permits.

Free parking was a bonus and close to the information centre and the glow worm caves. It was also quiet at night. Balcony was lovely and we could sleep with the balcony door open. The small fridge was good too.
