Charlerois not an obvious tourist destination, as it really is a struggling city. But the upper town with the art deco town hall and the main church on an octagonal square has the feel of slightly surrealist film set. One can have a nice stroll through city, exploring its different layers of time and the life of the inhabitants with their very mixed heritage. And if you are inclined to adventures of the everyday, you will enjoy this city.Guest review byChristophNetherlands - 8.0

A very decent destination for a weekend in its own right, it can also serve as a base for things like battlefield exploration (Waterloo, the WW1 Western Front, some of Marlborough's campaigns). If you choose to make it a base for car trips, remember to set your SatNav to "avoid motorways" - it's beautiful countryside if you stick to the smaller roads. I detected no 'edge' to the place at all, no bad behaviour, no vagrants or beggars. This matters since it's a lovely place to explore entirely on foot. The people were, without exception, friendly and helpful. The food is excellent, as is the beer, but this is Belgium after all.Guest review byJackUnited Kingdom - 4.0
The room was comfy and good.
The room was comfy and good. I had the cleaner breathing down my neck cause I checked out right on 10am. This place lacked atmosphere, and the breakfast wasn't great.Reception staff were friendly and helpful.Guest review byIngrid SAustralia - 10.0

what a nice city, very clean. lots of opportunities to visit museum, restaurant. We also made a tour with city guide that was very pleasant. we discovered the beautiful cathedral. Also the region is very nice to discover by bicycle. But prepare to be "out in the blue", not many shops, restaurants in the neighborhood.Guest review byChristBelgium - 10.0

Lac de l'Eau d'Heure is a pleasant spot for a few days' vacation, it has a lot of activities for kids and adults alike. There are some beach areas that are nice. Easy to cycle around the lake and there are some good restaurants to choose from which are within easy reach with a bike.Guest review byOrsolyaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Perfect location for visiting Pairi Daiza.
Perfect location for visiting Pairi Daiza. Kids are tired after long day in zoo, so then it is convenient if you have a location close by. City center of Ath looks also nice for a stroll, but we did not do this because we had not enough time left for thisGuest review byPeterNetherlands - 10.0

Chimay was just what I needed for a personal retreat far away from everything. Great little city, very kind people, excellent food, and what I came for - deep woods to hike in, exceptional beer and cheese.Guest review byJodiUnited States - 10.0

Nice small country town with new industrial facilities kept out of town. Nice farming country landscapes. Highways nearby (N7, E429). Multiple great and casual eating facilities and new grocerystore nearby. Fifteen min. to Paira Daiza (largest zoo in all of Europe), 45 min. from Brussels and airport, 25 min. to Tournai/Doornik.Guest review byAndreBelgium - 4.0

I would not recommend that for children, even with people with disabilities; just saying! no pic to upload waste of time, unfortunately, as I had straight to Brussels city centre next day with the family.Guest review byJ JacaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We've been to Mons twice and both times it seemed a bit 'grey'. If you're from the UK, the potholes in the roads will make you feel at home. The best bits are the Lago swimming pool with brilliant slides and a whirlpool which kids absolutely love. Just make sure you're wearing the regulation swimming gear. No baggy shorts allowed. We had to buy new ones last year and used them again on this trip. The most moving aspect which we came to see previously and visited again this time was the site of the first day of WW1 and the memorial to Maurice Dease and Sidney Godley VCs under the Nimy railway bridge. The final resting place of Lt Dease is the St Symphorien Military Cemetery, just outside of Mons. The central square in Mons is the place to go for dining out. Rather strangely, we ate at a sushi restaurant, which was pretty good.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom
