There are a few supermarkets 15 minutes away as well as some smaller store(netto) right in the complex where the hotel is. The stuff was super nice and helpful, and all of them speak English. Breakfast was diverse and tasty with vegan options, too. I didn't use public transportation as the hotel is 20 minutes away from the central train station and the main attractions. I really loved Dresden. It is the cleanest and safest city I've visited so far in Germany and my stay at this hotel made the experience even better. Overall amazing, you can just google stuff and see the beautiful sights. The only issue which most travelers will see it as a problem is lack of Uber or other apps. It is a good spot between Dresden and Meißen.
It is a good spot between Dresden and Meißen. You can get by train to both of them or even to the Sachsische Sweiz (Bad Schandau etc.). Also the Moritzburg castle and its forests is reachable by a steam train (it is worse with buses, better to use car otherwise). There are vineyards everywhere and many small castles or big villas. In early September the city was busy without feeling...
In early September the city was busy without feeling overcrowded. The great majority of tourists seemed to be German. Highly recommend the paddle steamer trips on the Elbe - we went to Meissen and returned by train. The two art galleries - the Albertinum and the Alte Meister in the Zwinger are excellent - with a good selection of Caspar David Friedrich and his contemporaries. It's extraordinary to look at the all the elegant C18th. architecture now and to compare it with the blackened ruins of 1945. Even more extraordinary to think that much of the reconstruction was don by the GDR. Well worth a day trip to Leipzig too - vibrant city, very different in feel from Dresden.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom
