A hidden natural wonderland
Located 100 km south-east of Berlin, the unique and UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, captivating Spreewald is characterised for its plant life on wetlands and for its pine forests on drier areas. It has over 18,000 species of flora and fauna. The area also contains 200 small water channels, vast grasslands and natural hot springs.
The largest city of the area is Lübbenau, with its majestic centrepiece Lübbenau Castle. The city dates back to the Middle Ages, signs of this can be seen on the city walls and museum. After visiting the old town, visitors can cruise along the winding web of tree-covered waterways on a traditional punt (flat bottomed boat). Visitors can hire a boat or a bike and explore the local area with several cycling routes to the nearby villages around Spreewald Biosphere Reserve.
Along with stunning forests, popular hiking, trail-walking and cycling routes, the region is also famous for its hot springs, which are located in Burg. The springs feature pools and spas which are perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing, cycling or hiking through the countryside.
Neighbouring Lübben has popular attractions such as Lübben Castle, Neuhaus Manor and the St Pancras fieldstone church. A wide variety of food and beverage options are available in Spreewald, from the traditional German Gasthaus and Brauhaus to the numerous international restaurants which are scattered across the region.

Beautiful town in Spreewald. We were only 3 days there and it was far from enough. Arrive in the midlle of week, there will be fewer tourists. Go for a breakfast to Bubner, visit the City museum, and of course go kayaking!Guest review byJeannaIsrael - 2.0

I spent there 4 days and it was the worst experience ever! The food was bad and overpriced all over the place, but you are kind of stuck there... First night the whole family of 4 got food poisoning from one of the restaurants there. Those who managed to throw up were lucky, cause the rest was feeling sick till the end of our stay ;/ There was a poop floating in children pool. In the big pool something touched my leg - surprise! surprise! a DIAPER! Our room was not cleaned during these 4 days, we had to put the trash outside the door to be picked up. Not for anyone seeking a bit of excitement. We rented kayaks and that was a lot of fun, prices are high for most everything and many of the locals seemed to be super stressed out by the tourists. They have an odd sense of humor there that not everyone will appreciate. The nearby Tropical Island Resort was great, specially if you have kids. Tropical Islands means to me to stay in nice warm weather - 24.2C is not sufficient and it was really cold when step up from 32degrees pool. Many places were closed without any warning upon arrival. Big slides were under reconstruction, ok, article on web site, but no price compensation, minigolf-closed, BoraBora lounge - closed, half of kid's playground - closed. Smell from slide construction was touchable in half of hangar. I need to mention 1.5h gueue before we could enter the Islands. Any ideas for improvement to speed up the process? Both my friend and I had a magical experience at the Schloss. The location was breath taking. The top floor room had a beautiful view of the gardens. The breakfast had great variety and the dinner at the hotel was a very romantic, fine dining experience for us.
