- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,257 reviewsThe location of Val de Roland is perfect. This was our first trip out to the Pyrenees, and we couldn't have picked a better spot to start exploring. Since we traveled over a holiday weekend off-season, many businesses were closed i.e. restaurants, shops, and activities. We were just there to explore and hike. The rooms are small apartments, great if you stay for two days to one week or longer. There is a small kitchen, bathroom and we had three beds (2 adults, 2 kids). The balcony in our unit looked out directly to the mountains, it was exactly what we were looking for getting out of the city for a few days. We only saw one woman working the front desk and she was great, despite being on her own she had everything under control and was incredibly nice. We'll definitely return to this location! Val de Roland is within one hour of the Cirque de Gavarnie and another ski town called Cauterets, which is on the way to Pont d'Espagne.Guest review byJGBBFrance
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 219 reviewswe stayed for 2 nights at Toison d'Or and absolutely loved it! The hotel is beautifully decorated, including the smallest details. The view from the room is sbsolutely breathtaking (we stayed in Sir Galahad's room): I don't think I've ever had such spectacular views from a hotel room. Hoever, the best part of our stay were the hosts: Xavier and Julie! We felt so incredibly welcome, and Julie makes delicious dinners. We also met a lot of other wonderful people from around the world. In short, our stay could not have been better and we recommend this place 100%. Definitely hoping to go back :)Guest review byHelen EsserNetherlands

It’s such a cute little place and every detail is perfect. The owners are really kind. We also liked the spa area. The location is perfect for hiking. We were there in September. There is also a Supermarkt next to the chalets.Guest review byIsabellGermany

Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees.
Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees. We stayed for a week and could have stayed a few more days. Tons of hikes, waterfalls, water activities, and climbing within an hour's drive (but many places are much closer than that). My one piece of advice would be to make dinner reservations ahead of time or order your takeout early because most places fill up really fast and even the pizza places stopped taking orders early in the evening because they filled up so quickly! It's a great place though, and we really enjoyed our time there.Guest review byLeslieFrance - 10.0

I love this village, very well situated between Pic du Midi, Gavarnie, and Pont d'Espagne directions. It has everything you need as a tourist: supermarkets and specialty stores (wine, cheese, etc), restaurants, a small market, a tourist office, parks, and several walking trails around the valley (ask for a map in the tourist office), a spa center... And it has beautiful architecture. Also a center for bike tourism and ski/snowboarding. During summer an animal center is open for families.Guest review byAlinaPortugal - 10.0

Argeles-Gazost is a good size town with a range of restaurants and shops plus a big market on Tuesdays (food & other goods). Away from the old town there are supermarkets and other shops. Our favourite place to eat dinner was Cafe-Hotel Les Fleurs. The local bakeries were all good but Patisserie Vignau Jean had the most impressive choice of cakes and tarts. Another find was the microbrewery "La brasserie du pays des gaves" who offer charcuterie boards alongside a range of beers. We made use of the local busses to access walks near Gavernie (seasonal service) and Cauterets for Lac de Gaube & Pont d'Espagna. On a future visit would love to explore the valley by bike along the greenway.Guest review byHeikeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This little ski town truly has gorgeous views and is in a very beautiful natural setting. I wish we had been able to stay for more than just one night, but I’m glad we got a chance to go! Getting around is easy on foot. The town has lots of cafés and little shops. It also has a great outdoor gear store and a large shoe shop! When we were there a concert was being played and it was lovely to hear it from the outside of the structure where it was being played. It gave a very nice cozy feel to the experience.Guest review byAnneUnited States - 10.0

There is a great food market on Saturday, I wish I could have stayed in the area for longer to justify buying more local goods from the artisans ( cheeses, meats, breads etc. Many local walks up into the hills around the town start from the centre , just make sure you bring your walking boots. Even the relatively short walk up to the Virgin Mary is worth it. And of course a dip in the thermal spa/ public baths is well worth it.Guest review byKenUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Laruns is a charming village in the Ossau valley.
Laruns is a charming village in the Ossau valley. It's an ideal base for exploring the Béarn area of the Pyrenees, and a centre for many outdoor activities, and has a good selection of eateries. We went there for the petit train d'Artouste and a stage of the tour de France, and discovered a gem, to which we will be returning.Guest review byJeremyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Cauterets is lovely town in the middle of the Pyrenees with amazing views of the mountains. A good base if you like hiking or cycling. It has a market with lots of yummy food, bakeries, restaurants and other shops. There are quite a few hotels and lots of apartments, so a great summer destination.Guest review byjannaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The Templar fortified church: amazing, though nothing to do with the Templars. The little castle up the hill. A scramble, but a great view. Closest town to utterly spectacular Cirque du Gavarnie; close enough to gorgeous Pont d'Espagne (drive round to Cauterets for access). Cheerful pizza Ariane. Delicious fish soup and crevettes aioli at Piff.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is a charming alpine village at the foot of the Pyrenees with its own cable car and ski station but also within reach of at least two other ski stations. It has a good selection of bars and restaurants and must have hosted generations of alpine activity.Guest review byJOHNUnited Kingdom
