- From $575.96 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 116 reviewsEverything! We were so sad to leave. We love travel so have stayed in some amazing hotels across the world (including other Relais & Chateaux properties), but after our stay at Gidleigh Park, we realized this might have been the BEST hotel ever - even including some very special Japanese ryokans. What made it so wonderful: - The staff were all so genuinely nice. We had a lot of odd requests (since I’m pregnant and my husband has very specific dietary preferences), and I’m sure they secretly thought we were total weirdos, but they did a great job covering this up - no request was too strange! Examples: 1.) my husband became addicted to Innocent smoothies during our stay in England and insisted on having some every day (…even in a Michelin-starred hotel), so they kept them in the fridge for us and brought out the bottles whenever he wanted to pour a glass; 2.) I went down each morning to have breakfast but my husband prefers to sleep in, so I would request a takeaway homemade croissant for him. This request alone wasn’t too bad perhaps, but the croissants were so good warmed up, so we would later request to have them warmed right before he ate them - which they kindly did… - The food is SUPERB - I could’ve eaten for weeks straight just at the casual lounge (we’d normally try the formal restaurant too, but saving this for next time when I have fewer pregnancy food restrictions, to fully enjoy!). Best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had, with perfectly poached golden-orange yolks (I’ve only ever seen such perfect eggs before in Japan), sumptuous afternoon tea, truffled cheese soufflé, really good strong pots of Earl Grey and Mini Pu Erh Cake (!) tea, amazing fresh fish and brothy beans… all in a cozy casual living room/conservatory setting where they let you open the patio doors, or sit outdoors (very nice if you’re being extra Covid-cautious while pregnant like me)!Guest review bySoniaUnited States
- From $138.66 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 1,353 reviewsThe dinner, high tea, and breakfast areas were spacious and delightfully decorated with an eye to easy comfort and respectability. The surrounding moors and tor were fun for a walkabout. There was a proper snow while i was there and hay tor hill was covered with sledders, dogs and hikers. I spotted a herd of wild horses hanging around the trail to hay tor munching on the snow covered bushes. After my day on the moors, there was a handy entrance through the hotel boot room, with bench and towels to shake off the snow. My room had a hot towel rack that dried my clothes and gloves by morning. The dinners and breakfast were prepared by skilled chefs and were good looking and delicious. I highly recommend the moorland hotel for a relaxing stay on the moors.Guest review byCherylUnited States

We visited for a murder mystery evening on the SDR steam railway. Took the opportunity to visit the Abbey grounds and also used our bus passes to visit Totnes. Great location for short visit with beautiful countryside right on your doorstep.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Small country town with character. an excellent starting point for a holiday in Devon, Dartmoor on the doorstep and other parts of Devon not too far away. In our one overnight stay we got unsolicited help from a young lad and an older man ... a friendly place! Great meal at the Union Inn.Guest review byGeoffUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Chagford is a gorgeous friendly little place with plenty of lovely coffee shops, eateries and shops too. Lovely places to walk too. Our favourite breakfast place was the Birdcage cafe and our favourite pubs for food of an evening were the three crowns and th Ring o Bells.Guest review byTraci WhiteUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We visited Lydford specifically for the gorge.
We visited Lydford specifically for the gorge. The Whitelady waterfall was lovely but a very long steep trek for just one waterfall. The Devils Cauldren was the highlight. A shorter, but more tricky, walk. Amazing sheer sides with a roaring river in the bottom. Steps clinging to the sheer sides with just a single hand rail to hang on to. No dogs or children allowed in the more hazardous bits. I was alternately amazed and terrified.Guest review byBellUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I stayed at Hexworthy and had no car so can't really comment on surrounding attractions, but there were a variety of beautiful walks by brooks and rivers and over the moors. The walk around Venford Reservoir was lovely too.Guest review byJaneUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Ashburton is a charming little town in a beautiful setting, full of character and plenty of independent shops. From jewellery and antique stores to cake and coffee shops, there’s lots to explore. The locals were incredibly friendly, and even the local Spar and Co-op stayed open quite late, which was really convenient.Guest review bypopat - 10.0

South Brent village is in a good location if you wish to visit the other local towns such as Totnes, Buckfastleigh, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, as all easily accessible via the A38. The village now lacks a selection of places to eat in the evenings but there are a number of good venues within a short drive.Guest review byRobert - 8.0

I really enjoyed visiting the Dartmoor Prison visitors centre. An unexpected treat. I was lucky with the weather, mainly blue skies and fluffy clouds. Fog and rain came and went quickly. It's Dartmoor after all. It's very central for visiting the moors and the seaside. I liked it. There's a visitors centre there for advice re where to go. Local pride is evident.Guest review byAdrianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Pod was a little gem. Just right for 2. Peaceful surroundings with well stocked lake. Nice to be able to just be, to recharge yourself, reconnect, a bit of us quality time In a very pretty and clean site. Instructions very clear to open barriers and key lock.
