A pretty and historical village with two Elizabethan houses to visit , an ancient church , close to other attractions such as Lavenham and Cavendish yet having amenities such as shops and post office . There are also frequent buses to Bury St Edmunds .Guest review byJoyceUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Sudbury is a very interesting historic town, no two properties being the same built design as many towns are. Good meal choices and service in the White Horse pub ... Tapas meal choices recommended.Guest review byTerenceUnited Kingdom - 10.0
This is an unexpected part of the world.
This is an unexpected part of the world. Beautiful historic villages and churches to visit nearby. East Bergholt Constable centre has real feeling. A little area to wind down. Food at Tobooth is very very good but expensiveGuest review byOliverUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Idyllic, quiet village location on the village green.
Idyllic, quiet village location on the village green. Thr Five bells is a quaint, oldy worldy country pub that oozes charm and character. The staff are friendly and treat you like family. The accommodation was an amazing surprise. Clean, modern and just the right size for myself and my wife. Perfect en suite toilet/shower room. Coffee/teamaking facilities in the room as well as available at the bar. We wish we could have stayed longer but we came up country from Bournemouth for a family wedding. Will definitely be booking another stay here, hopefully soon.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely little village with a great local serving great value for money meals. Good base for seeing all the local villages, all of which are so pretty, not just Lavenhem. Also recommend the farm shop just outside of Glemsford, had a Sunday lunch there which was first class. Long Medford is well worth a visit.Guest review byVivienneUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We used Clare as a base to visit places in Suffolk/Essex/Cambridgeshire. Our favourite places in Clare itself were Clare Castle, the old railway line/station buildings and Clare Priory. It's very easy to get around Clare, it's only a small place so pretty much everything is in walking distance.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Good Easy access to walks along the Stour.
Good Easy access to walks along the Stour. Park run was great. Small nice art gallery around the corner. Large housing estates. Bit of a dormitory for Sudbury, but Sudbury centre is only a short walk away. Not good. The Green King IPA at the local pub had a distinctly off taste.Guest review byCarinUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We often walk the Stour Valley Path, and Stoke by Nayland is in one of the most beautiful parts of that walk. There are two very good restaurants cum hotels. Also a convenience store and a nice bookshop.Guest review byM.Netherlands - 10.0

John Constable Exhibition just up the road at Flatford (few mins walk) very interesting and moving. The Clarke's Victorian house, how they lived in these times also fascinating. River Stour boat trip pleasant and pilots knowledgeable. Place for Plants gardens and RSPB section nice to visit (see the various carvings out of trees). The National Trust shops all seem to have the same generic stock whichever part of the country you are in..and are very expensive, they need to sell LOCAL things. Lion Brasserie good food and friendly service. Need a car to get around.Guest review byDeborahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Long Melford is in a wonderful location and is ideally placed for touring the area of both Suffolk and parts of Essex. It is an interesting place to stroll around itself with its small independent shops, tearooms and hostelries . Places to visit include Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Southwold on the coast , Sudbury, Clare and Colchester or just casually drive around the area to visit lovely sleepy villages with thatch cottages in abundance.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom
