It's a clean city with something for everyone, shopping, entertainment and incredible food. I used grab to go everywhere cheaply and although everything is pretty close by geographically the traffic slows things down during peak times. I found a nice western bar called Eastern Promise that had a pool table and have made many friends there, both locals, expats and holiday makers. Mount Merapi (you can take a jeep to the summit, but I didn't), Borobudur, and Prambanan Temple are worth a visit, although the entrance fee is quite high for Asia. Maliobor Street is a must-see. Kotagede with its narrow streets, as well as the water castle and the Sultan's Palace, should be on your to-do list. Tebing Breksi might be nice in the dark, but otherwise skip it. I skipped the sights that required a drive of over 1.5 hours (Hutan Pinus Pengger, Jomblang Cave, Timang Beach, Watu Giring). The roads in Indonesia aren't that good. My last visit to Surabaya was about 10 years ago. The city had transformed to be nicer and cleaner. Shopping malls were excellent now, cleaner. Keep it up. Everything is perfect but only one thing that I have really uncomfortable. That is internet connection !!!!! I can not fully watch YouTube or Netflix bt my laptop. Wifi signal continously has drorpped so it is very difficult to watch any streaming. Even I have to access to my company web for working. Something is happened. I can not work because very low level of internet connection and internet speed. I didn't have any internet issue when I was in Jakarta and Borgor during similar times (I was in jakarta and borgor one week ago) If you have to do something with internet, I can not recommend this hotel. ijen is pretty much overrated, it's a nice 6-hour-ish hike with above medium difficulty, the flame is underwhelming which is slightly bigger than a camp fire and the crater? go to Bromo instead. With the current volcano incident related to the Brazilian tourist, I am more convinced that people should be aware of tour guide's quality and training in East Java. Upon reading some brief information about traveling to Ijen, I found to mandatory in getting a guide, I went there alone and caught weird looks from other guides, some avoided my interactions when they found out I was alone, some others was good and paying attention.Guest review byVuVietnam - 10.0

Jakarta is a fascinating Asian city. It's size makes it difficult to see everything in a few days. I recommend a full week here. We Liked Central Jakarta and M Blok the best. Beautiful friendly locals. The traffic is crazy but the locals attitude towards it is to work as a team which is waaay different to the attitude in the West.. If possible taxi on scooters at peak times otherwise allow an extra chunk of time and try adopt the local attitude. LOVED JAKARTA.
