Turin is a city that has everything we need: history, food, tours, more polite people than other cities, very cheap prices, easy train, bus, this was the best place I stayed, I was in all of Italy, and the easiest to get around, without bureaucracy, and cheaper prices than others.Guest review byJairoUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A wonderful centre to spend a few days exploring Lake Maggiore. Regular boat trips around the lake. The Borromean Islands and Villa Taranto Gardens are not to be missed. The town itself is lovely to stroll around and has a huge choice of excellent restaurants.Guest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Alba has everything you need.
Alba has everything you need. Shops, restaurants and all amenities. There is free parking in the large carpark near the station. The older part of town is very pretty and full of wine and truffle shops. We did a wine tasting at the historic Pio Cesare which you need to organise in advance.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore.
Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore. It has 2 parts - Intra where the main ports are, and Pallanza. There are lots of boats leaving and arriving every day at Intra, both passenger-only and ferries with cars, so very useful for exploring other parts of the lake. Intra has a nice sea front and an old town with little courtyards and cafes dotted all over it. The highlight of Pallanza is Villa Taranto, the botanic gardens. Well worth a visit.Guest review byLenoraUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We arrived by train at a beautiful but mostly abandoned train station (unfortunate because it is a beauty!!) Town is on a surfboard-shaped plateau with beautiful bridges that access it by car or train. I did a walk around the whole plateau and was awe-struck by the beautiful old buildings and surrounding valleys. Plenty of coffee shops and cafes/restaurants if you don't want to eat at your hotel. So glad to have made the overnight stop here on our way from Turin to Menton by train.Guest review byLelandCanada - 10.0

I have been going to Cannobio for nearly thirty years it is a little gem on Lago Maggiore and is the essence if an Italian town. There are not many English or UK tourists, which makes it good to practise Italian. It sits on the lake with an amazing Sunday market and emits a feeling of comfort and home for me I should say its horrible to keep it a little secret but it is a great place to visit with amazing restaurants and good quality food with prices for all budgets and campsites tooGuest review byLouiseUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Baveno is a town of human scale.
Baveno is a town of human scale. It's position on the lake in the Borromean gulf means the it is very well connected with ferries. At the time I visited (September) Ferries run around the sights of the lake centre every half hour, and twice a week they run up to Locarno and Ascona in Switzerland (well worth a look. The lake navigation company don't advertise it but they do a week holiday pass which is good for unlimited journeys over the entire length of the lake for 95 Euro per week. If you are going to be getting around by ferry predominantly, this is outstanding value. For comparison, on Lake lucerne and Lake Geneva, the ferry company charge 90 Euros per day for an open pass. Baveno doesn't overplay the tourist card in terms or pricing. An espresso can be had for 1.30 Euro, a Cappucino for 2.50 Euro. The town is well served by Uber (who are more reliable than the local taxi firms I dealt with, and considerably lower cost). Don't miss the Borromeo islands (and Villas) or the botanical garden at Villa Taranto. If you have a head for heights try the bucket lift (Funivia) at Laveno for some great views over the lake. Look out also for Sunday Lunchtime music (chamber music or soft jazz generally) in towns around the lake and modern art exhibitions at Villa Giulia in Pallanza. An exhibition of work by Ugo Nespolo was incredibly good, and the ticket also gives access to Museo Paesaggio with some interesting bronzes and landscapes On the northern shores of the lake, Cannobio is a lovely little town, well worth a visit. and Cannero is a (better?) alternative to Luino on Market days. On the Swiss lakeshore, personally I prefer Ascona to Locarno, principally because of size and a more Italian vibe but both are worth visiting.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
