We are cycling in Japan and are usually a mess by the time we arrive and they helped us find a place for our bikes and quickly check us in. All the drinks, snack and popsicles were unlimited and a joy. I made an espresso in the AM. Perfect. The dinner was exquisite. One of our favorites with fresh sashimi, and light delicate tempura. The rooms and onsen are just stunning, traditional looking but extremely clean and well maintained. The women’s bath is incredible, very high ceiling and you get the impression to go back in time a few centuries. The staff was exceptional, making us feel very welcome and comfortable, so friendly and helpful. Hon-Hachinohe has far more to offer than we could fit into...
Hon-Hachinohe has far more to offer than we could fit into our three-day visit—we truly wished we had stayed longer. The Korekawa Jomon Archaeological Museum was exceptional, offering a fascinating look at the area's ancient past. The Tanesashi Coast was another highlight, with its beautiful and easy-to-navigate hiking trails. In the center of town, we explored the Hachinohe Portal Museum, known as ‘Hacchi’—a six-floor space that blends cultural center, artist studios, and local exhibits. Even though Towada is about 60,000 population (big to me), it is very walkable. Lots of parks to visit (don't miss the Marshmallow House) and you can't beat the food you find in c-stores (Lawsons, 7-11, Family Mart) all over Japan. Most of the sights are outside of the town and we did not get to them because we did not have a car. The host, Akira, greeted us with a glass of their local apple juice (from their neighbor actually). It was a nice surprise! The house is located on a nice and quiet neighborhood and is surrounded by apple orchards. Since this is a home stay, towels aren’t included but you can request them for ¥100 per person. They offered to change the sheets after 3 days but we declined. Akira’s wife, Yo’ne, even took stride to learn how to ask “Did you have a good night’s sleep” in our language. She stated that she does that for every international guests they have. It was nice personal touch. If you plan to stay here, you’ll need a car as it’s about 15 minutes from the city center. However, the Go app (Japan’s version of Uber) works fine albeit a little pricier than the big cities. Other than that, we had a very lovely stay.Guest review byGingUnited States - 10.0
Lake Towada is absolutely beautiful.
Lake Towada is absolutely beautiful. The color of the water is stunning and you can take the leisure boat for wonderful views. Oirase Stream is a short bus ride away (pay when you get off--exact change only, or buy a ticket if you're coming from Lake Towada/Nenokuchi) which you can spend a day hiking (though it's more of a slightly strenuous walk). A beautiful city with plenty to see and do. Really recommend the ‘Aja’ restaurant, diagonally opposite the hotel - great staff and menu, and quite quirky.
