Our visit to Kandy was truly wonderful, offering a perfect blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern convenience. The city is a joy to explore, and we found it remarkably easy to get around. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the iconic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Maligawa) and taking a relaxing stroll around the picturesque Kandy Lake. We also loved exploring the serene Udawatte Kele Sanctuary, which felt like a peaceful escape. For those interested in the region's history, the Hanthana Tea Museum and the Kandy Wax Museum were both fascinating, and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens were an absolute must-see with their stunning and diverse flora. The dining scene in Kandy was delightful. For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious and authentic meal at the Sri Ramya Hotel in town. For a special evening, we had dinner at Sams restaurant, which offered not only great food but also a fantastic view of the city. We also grabbed a quick bite at the restaurant on the top floor of KCC, which was very convenient. Getting around the city was surprisingly simple. The PickMe and Uber apps work well, and we found that tuk-tuks are readily available and very affordable, making it easy to hop between different attractions. While traveling without young children, we believe Kandy offers many family-friendly activities. The Hanthana Tea Museum, Kandy Wax Museum, and the beautiful botanical gardens are all engaging spots that would surely be enjoyed by families. We lived here as children. Our father taught at Zahira College. We had contacted them and they received is kindly and showed us around. We found the house where we lived and the lady there was very friendly. Our father's friend's son and daughter gave us lunch at their resort. We had a fantastic stay at Symphony Homes during our visit to Kandy. The villa looks exactly like the photos — modern, very clean, spacious, and beautifully maintained. The peaceful location was perfect, yet only a short drive to Kandy city and major attractions. The private garden was lovely to relax in, and the fully equipped kitchen made our stay even more comfortable. The host was extremely friendly and helpful, always quick to respond and made sure we had everything we needed. Kandy is a very busy city!
Kandy is a very busy city! We ended up having to spend 3 nights there due to trying to get a train booking to Kandy, however we felt that 1 night, max 2 would have been enough. You can get round all the main attractions in a day so you don't need to spend too much time. Don't book tickets through a third party as you are not guaranteed them (we were told the day before we didn't have tickets!) so just turn up early to the station and you'll get a ticket for the train - though no guarantee of a seat!Guest review byBillieAustralia
