This is one of the few resorts I’ve been to where you get an up close and personal interaction with nature. My villa overlooked beautiful forest land all around me, and the pathways leading up to the villa and reception were so immersive. Most of all, they built a lot of anticipation about what the villa would like the first time I walked up because they are so well hidden from pathways and the other villas. The staff were so helpful in attending to all my needs, and service was constantly with a smile. The manager checked in with me before my stay to see if I had any special requests, which I’ve rarely experienced elsewhere. The food is incredible! I was worried about the spice levels in the food because I don’t handle it so well, but they made sure to tame it down for me, and it was great! It was wonderful to see how happy they were for me to try local cuisine, and with the taste, there’s no reason not to. The villa itself was bigger than any hotel I’ve ever been to. I enjoyed lovely Sri Lankan tea in my private living room and got to experience nature from my villa. We went on a guided rock tour, which was great to soak in the views of the property and the surroundings. We even saw Sigiriya Lion Rock from up there. All in all, I would highly recommend staying here. The villas are tastefully designed and spacious, the food is just mouthwatering, and the staff are amicable and attentive. They also upgraded us to one with a pool and put out some decorations on behalf of it being our honeymoon! We had a contact/butler we could request things via WhatsApp and he was very accommodating and friendly. On that note, all the staff were brilliant, housekeeping called in the evenings also to check if we needed anything - water, towels, etc. and provided turndown service. The grounds of the hotel are amazing, with trails all the way around the property that can be walked, jogged or cycled (there are complimentary bikes!). There was also fantastic wildlife to be seen on the grounds! Monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, lizards, peacocks, etc.! There is a nice bar with a pool table and the cocktails, etc. are nice. The food was amazing. I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya.
I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.Guest review byShironSri Lanka - 10

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.Guest review byHazelIreland - 10

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time.
