The market square in the evening is very busy but there's not really much variety in entertainment. Beware of pickpockets and thieves. I did encounter one trying it on with me, and another who stalked me at an ATM. Do the Guru walk with Youssef. He is brilliant. There's a restaurant where they do meat roasted in a pit. Gordon Ramsey's been there. The lamb is okay, but ask for shoulder. The beef is excellent. It is overpriced though. Girls, don't wear mini skirts. Mix of old town, port and beach. In danger of becoming a little overrun with tourists during day. All felt very safe. Loads of usual souk shops - especially notable are the wood ones (Thuya). Large gently sloping beach, good for watersports. Don't miss the port - very active during day - buy some fish and get it cooked nearby very cheaply, but can get very busy (and chaotic!). Wide range of restaurants, recommend the Ocean Vagabond at far end of beach. Taros bar is liveliest place, but drinks pricey. The hospitality and the gorgeous setting were my two favorite aspects of the Riad Jnane Imlil and the village of Imlil. The surroundings are majestic and the staff of the riad were so very warm. The food was delicious and convenient (breakfast was included, and you can purchase dinner and eat in the building). I was not feeling well from before I arrived in Imlil, and still it was a beautiful place to rest in. We had planned to do a full-day trek and have lunch with a Berber family in their home, but had to cancel due to my illness. Still, we walked around a bit in the village and that was so very pleasant. The riad had a pool and has beautiful terraces and balconies to enjoy the gorgeous views from. A hidden little gem!! The local people and the magical vibe of this place will stay in our hearts for along time! I accidentally booked our family to stay here instead of Essoauria and did not regret it for one minute. Unlikely Marrakesh, Safi is very quiet and nice city to discover and learn about in a week, you will be able to make friends easily and recognise the locals quicker.
