A beautiful venue. The rooms surround a magnificent courtyard where the hotel sets up breakfast and dining. We loved the incorporation of local artisans in the decor of the spaces, which you can scan through qr codes so you know where to go get your own pieces in town!

This is a glorious gem of a seaside retreat. There are fresh white cushions on the seaside and poolside loungers. White cotton hammocks and even a swinging bed are all tucked in around the tropical garden facing the rolling sea. The beach is largely undeveloped though there is a small restaurant nearby. The resort's communal kitchen works beautifully for tea, coffee, and includes the use of a fridge and stove so you can cook if you wish. The room was decorated with bamboo and seagrass with a lovely seaview balcony.

Beautiful designed brand new boutique hotel. It feels more like staying in a villa/mansion than a hotel. The hotel has only 7 rooms and feels very intimate. We stayed in a lovely room with a gorgeous terrace attached to the room.

We spent 6 night at Hotel Materia for our anniversary trip. It was a great location, walkable to everything. Room #5 was very private with its own staircase and patio. We loved having coffee and fresh fruit delivered to our room every morning! And the bathtub was very luxurious. Staff was super responsive, kind and helpful with cabs, etc. Can't say enough wonderful things about our experience here!!

Couldn't recommend this place enough. The staff is extremely friendly, we even received an upgrade to a room with AC which turned out to be a blessing given the humidity. The location is excellent in a little semi-secluded nook of the beach, the design of the hotel is lush and green, and you can just roll out of bed and onto the beach. Special shout out to the cleaning service who left the room spotless each time (a miracle given how much sand we'd bring in). Yoga in the mornings was lots of fun and we really liked the instructor and palapa space. The food at the restaurant was good, maybe a bit pricey for the area but the beautiful setting makes up for it.

What a great vacation!

What a great vacation! It was really relaxing and I felt so very safe when walking the streets. We went on 3 excursions with no plans on the days in between. There is so much to see and do. It was as nice as any European vacation but without the long airline trip not the exaggerated cost. Everything was very inexpensive. I also bought many of our Christmas gifts. I got handcrafted items for the cost of Amazon items - and I was supporting village artisans.

Well, I.from the cold blue north and live in Oaxaca much of the year. Zipollite, if you don't know, is a tiny hub of tranquillity and common sense, about and hour south of Puerto E. It is the only nude beach in Mexico which scares away the MAGA crowd, but basically anything considered weird in other places is overlooked here. You can smoke a little weed in the surf side cafes. You can start a conversation with anyone in almost any language. You are worshipped for the goddess inside you and the town is full of beautiful young men and women with a few locals sprinkled in. I hate it that the real estate prices have gone sky high, but you can still rent a basic apt for about 10,000 pesos per month. The food is excellent. The people are lovely. I'm an old straight college teacher from CAnada and I love the place.

San Agustinillo is a quiet strip between Mazunte and Zipolite. It's lovely and peaceful, has some nice cafes and restaurants so you don't need to venture further if you don't want to. We found our favourite lunch place - Umami, and our favourite dinner place - Restobar Del Fondo. Both are delicious and not too pricey!

Salina Cruz is a very peaceful place offering some beaches...

Salina Cruz is a very peaceful place offering some beaches where surfing can be performed. It was a tiny seaport that grew up due to the oil refinery, not really recommended as a tourist destination by itself since there are limited facilities, with lot of eateries but very few good restaurants, one of them being Santa Julia inside the Misión de San José Hotel. Many secondary streets are in need of maintenance or not paved, although main avenues are in more or less good condition. Most of the traveling here has to do with oil or navy issues.

This is the only town in my 6 weeks of travel in Mexico where I felt that the tourism had exceeded the community's comfort zone - people were not nearly as talkative as usual (I speak quite a bit of Spanish and really enjoy engaging with the locals) and by far the primary reason that people visit here is for the mushrooms. It's great for that and also the temezcals, but a 2 night stay would be plenty. There are small neighboring towns that offer the same things but with much less tourism and I ended up at one of those and really enjoying it. 4 nights here was too long, it's fun for a few days. Also, the logging trucks are noisily passing through the area almost constantly.

Our focus on this trip was textiles, so we spent a fair amount of time out of the city proper at the textile areas. When in the city center, our hotel was close to a lot of good restaurants around and near the zocalo. The hotel was also right across the street from one of the big markets, which was fun to explore. A visit to Casa Juarez (childhood home of Benito Juarez) was very interesting and a medium walk from the hotel.
