Driving in Auckland is very stressful.
Driving in Auckland is very stressful. Auckland drivers are a chapter on their own. Getting to and from sights and attractions in your own car is rather tricky. Parking is another big problem. We went to the zoo this time and found it quite lovely with interesting displays, although a lot of the animals, especially the native ones, weren't visible as they are either camouflaged or in hiding. But we saw a real kiwi in action. Cafes within the zoo are well prices. Plenty of shopping malls. Auckland museum is also a great place to explore.Guest review byChristina GustavNew Zealand - 10.0

Probably not a popular destination compared to others on the island,suited us though. Good range of shops. The Woolworths supermarket was a bonus as far as buying groceries for the motel room. The RSA is a friendly destination, and provided takeaway meals for the weary traveller to take back to their motel. Some nice fashion shops worth a look too. A minor hassle was the amount of road noise heard in the motel room (probably sounded louder with the motel being situated uphill a short distance from the road). Originally not knowing what to expect, curiosity caused us to stop off for a coffee break, whilst travelling up to Cape Reinga. We were so impressed that we booked a night's stay on our return journey, Such is he layout of this unique township, bordering the south bank of the Mahurangi River. With buildings that date back to the late 1800's through to modern, It is very easy to walk around, there are many cafe's and restaurants scattered amongst a broad range of local businesses including craft, clothing, and a number of Boutiques selling many varied products. Albany choosen for its location. 2 Brm apartment, clean, spacious and enjoyed the 2 bathrooms. Staff fantastic, friendly and helpful. We mostly came from Australia to celebrate a sisters big 80th birthday dinner held at Campbell Bay. Location perfect. Sensational location on the cliff. Everything very clean and all necessary things sufficiently available. The beds are good, very nicely furnished. Thanks to the host for the helpful tips. We were there at the beginning of April and it was not hot. In real summer it can heat up a lot as there are many windows. There is a mobile cooling unit in the living room (with a hose to the outside when the window is open. In the bedrooms only fan. I used Snells Beach as a base for birdwatching in the area, including a boat trip to Kawau Island from Sandspit (10 mins drive away) and visits to Tawharanui Regional Park (30 mins drive away). It was a memory lane visit for me, as I had lived in Awhitu when young. Lovely Art Collective at Pollok. Historic church and school in Awhitu central and rolling farmlands.
