We loved the cozy feel of the house and the sunny terrace overlooking the lake. The apartment is well equipped for cooking and cleaning (if you decide to do the cleaning yourself) and there is even a washing machine/dryer in the apartment. It was very quiet at night. There is a coop (grocery store) a 3 min drive away. The moose park is very close, and there are beautiful running /walking trails through forest to two small lakes very close by. The pools which are part of the property were very clean, and despite the summer season not crowded. Loved the fact that there were two hot whirl pools in addition to the regular pools. This is an average size Swedish city situated between two lakes. For international travel it is well connected with Gothenburg by bus and rail. We went there to take compete at IronMan 70.3. It is a very friendly place with lots of locals coming to support athletes like me. Cafe and restaurant prices are very reasonable compare to bigger Swedish cities. Wonderful castle and walks around and through the city were most enjoyable. The area is flat so no problems with steep inclines. Interesting history with many photo opportunities. The hotel is in the center of town, a 5 minute walk to the train station. Public parking is next to the hotel; after 6 pm it is free until 9 am. Lonely Planet describes Oskarshamn as (paraphrasing) "pleasant enough, but not interesting". The main reason to come here us to take a ferry, after all. I got to spend more time here than planned thanks to a last-minute ferry cancellation; while Oskarshamn is not a bad place to be stuck in for a night, it's definitely not something to put on your bucket list. Notes: - Restaurant Cecil is decent - Adels Hotel is very close to the Gotland Ferry terminal and quite cheap; the fact there is very little personnel on-site makes for an odd experience, though. - Oskarshamn is pretty small and walkable, but somewhat hilly.Guest review byJohannes
